Welcome back! If you’ve missed my first Brand Focus blog post- fashion related, you can read it HERE! For today’s Brand Focus, I am going to introduce you to a home and furniture brand that I have never heard of until recently, called Restoration Hardware (RH). My boyfriend was in town couple weeks ago, and he told me that I had to make a visit. Fortunately, Minnesota had a physical store in Edina, so we stopped by for some inspirations! And I fell in love!
All photos featured in in post were taken at the Restoration Hardware Gallery, located in the Galleria mall in Edina, MN. It was not as big compared to those standing alone mansion-like RHs that I had seen online, located in other bigger cities. However, this showroom/store had enough to shower my eyes and mind with inspiration. It was so spacious, well-lit, and filled with huge furniture from the sofas to the chandeliers.
RH was founded by Stephen Gordon in Eureka, CA in 1979. In 2010, RH has been added Gallery to its name to set themselves apart from its competitor, Pottery Barn, at a higher price point and more for the “up-market.” RH’s philosophy in business strategy that I admire is that they find the artists/designers THEY LOVE, and then they CURATE THEIR CLIENTS. The company later introduced RHTeens, RHBaby & Child, Design atelier aka workshop or studio for designer or artist, and RHModern.
RH’s Source Books are also well-known for their lengthy heavy pages, for example, the full 2014 catalogue weighed 17 lbs and had over 3000 pages. Ahh, crazy! I can tell you that RH’s wooden furniture pieces aren’t real as those heirloom ones, and you could tell that those are reclaimed or restored wood (I’m not entirely sure how they’re made, really!). I love how everything are so clean, simple, larger, brighter, lots of metals and woods, leather, and white and it only means POSSIBILITIES to me! Trust me, you’ve gotta give the store a visit when you get a chance and you can thank me later!
A short message from RH’s Chairman & CEO, Gary Friedman as he quoted from Muhammad Ali’s words of wisdom aka the company’s inspiration to always strive for what’s called POSSIBILITY:
“IMPOSSIBLE IS JUST A BIG WORD THROWN AROUND BY SMALL MEN WHO FIND IT EASIER TO LIVE IN THE WORLD THEY’VE BEEN GIVEN THAN TO EXPLORE THE POWER THEY HAVE TO CHANGE IT. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A FACT. IT’S AN OPINION. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A DECLARATION. IT’S A DARE. IMPOSSIBLE IS POTENTIAL. IMPOSSIBLE IS TEMPORARY. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING.”
