Trunk Club Review – Styling 12 Pieces 9 Looks

Trunk Club is a Nordstrom-owned company that offers styling service for both men and women. There is a $25 styling fee every Trunk box. However, the fee is waved with a Nordstrom membership card or applied towards the item that you decide to keep.

I live in Seattle where Nordstrom HQ is located and am surprised that there is no Trunk Club’s Clubhouses here. Clubhouses are places where the customers can come in for a one-to-one styling session and try on outfits that the stylist has pulled together for them. There are currently 5 Clubhouses in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Washington D.C, LA, and NYC. If you don’t live near one like me, getting a Trunk is entirely done online. Unlike many subscription services where customers get a fixed set of products every month, you can decide on getting your Trunk at anytime.

A Trunk Club stylist, named Lauren, reached out to me couple weeks ago asking if I was interested in getting my first box. I had heard of Trunk Club before and had been wondering what it was like, so I gave it a go! After completing my style profile with simple questions like sizing and measurements, Lauren asked my top 3 items I’d like to see in my Trunk box. I got to review and change a few items once before they got shipped out to me. And here are 12 items I have received in my Trunk Club box.

1. Tiger Mist Ava Flare Pants Size: XS | Color: White

2. ALLSAINTS Nicoli Sweater Size: XS | Color: Multi Stripe

3. Outdoor Voices 7/8 Springs Leggings Size: XS | Color: Ash/ Dove/ Oatmeal

4. Vince Tasha Sock Bootie $350 Size: 7.5 | Color: Marine

Trunk items worn: AFRM dress

Items from my closet: Zara heels (old)

This dress gives me the Reformation vibe! On the website, it says this is a midi dress, but it fits me at almost full-length and above the ankles. I’m 5ft5, and I wear tops and dresses size 0-2 or XS-S. Due to the back cut-out, nippies are the most ideal way to wear under this dress since the fabric is quite thin. With lined dresses though, it is best to get yourself some padded bra cups and sew them on. This way it will not only give you some boob support but also give you good shape, especially in photo. I do think this dress has potential if you are looking for a bridesmaid or wedding guest outfit. I love that the color is black, and that means it is pretty much all-season appropriate! I also love the deep enough V-neck and the sexy back cut-out!

Trunk items worn: REFORMATION top and Tiger Mist pants

Items from my closet: ALLSAINTS jacket, Proenza Schouler bag, and Zara heels

These white flared pants are the most challenging item to pair things with in my opinion. I have quite chunky thighs and wide hip, so flared pants don’t really flatter my body type. Even though these XS pants fit me perfectly all throughout the waist and thigh area, they do make me look so short in person! So my immediate solution is to add some heels. Note that these pants’ material is quite thin! Here, I wear the navy Reformation top to match the navy stitching on the pants. Remember to pair tight fitting top with loose fitting bottoms, and vice versa. I thought the black leather jacket and the matching colored bag balance the look pretty well. And this outfit out for weekend brunch with the girls or date night.

Trunk items worn: adidas by Stella McCartney hoodie

Items from my closet: COS boots and Proenza Schouler bag

I thought this hoodie dress would look so cool with some cool dad sneakers or boots like how I’ve styled it here! Add some tights and layer a top coat on top for added warmth if you’d like. I love that the sweater material is so thick and looks expensive on. Also the snake skin piping on the sides of the dress adds subtle coolness to the dress! This outfit is perfect for any family get-together occasion or movie date or something that involves food and lounging around. This all black outfit is comfy yet looks effortlessly cool.

Trunk items worn: Outdoor Voices leggings

Items from my closet: UNIQLO U sweater and Rothy’s shoes

I own the exact pair of the Outdoor Voices leggings, but mine are the 3 shades of gray ones. I am wearing size XS here, but I also have another OV leggings in S. And they both fit great! Recently, I really enjoy wearing leggings and sweaters out running errands and going to coffee shops. I’d choose comfy over everything, especially knowing that I have to be out all day! These spring leggings with the 3 colored panels seem intimidating to wear at first, but trust me, they look so cute on. Just wear them with some like color tops or a simple white sweater like I have on here and some sneakers! This is my definition of the ultimate comfy chic outfit!

Trunk items worn: Avec Les Filles coat, Reformation top, and Sam Edelman boots

Items from my closet: Topshop jeans and Free People hair clips

I am sure you have seen a hundred versions of fur coats on Instagram this winter! And you can peek at how I’ve styled one before, here and here! I’m sure Lauren has noticed it and included one in my Trunk. I am surprisingly pleased with how expensive this fur coat looks and feel both in person and in photos. It is unlined, but the seams were sewn together very nicely inside. However, it is very oversized on me, and winter in Seattle is too mild to be rocking such big coats around! Here, I’ve styled it with a form-fitting base outfit to make sure I don’t look swallowed in the coat. I think the studded boots and some hair clips add fun touched to this outfit. The boots run about half size large, so size down if they catch your eyes here! They are so comfortable and perfect to stomp around town in any winter weather conditions.

I love a good navy and brown color moment as well!

Trunk items worn: Row A bodysuit

Items from my closet: GRLFRND jeans, Kozha Numbers bag, and Zara heels

You can never go wrong with pairing floral tops with a pair of jeans and some heels. I love that this rose floral top has a low enough V-cut neck. It is a bodysuit and has long sleeves, so it looks quite effortlessly formal on its own. This look is great for both day and night occasion. It is girly and cute, casual yet looks put together! I would suggest you to start with some solid colored tops before venturing out with prints and patterns. Stripes are classic as well! Personally, I don’t reach for my many floral and patterned tops and dresses like this after one or two wears. They always end up collecting dust in my closet.

Trunk items worn: Free People sweater and Vince boots

Items from my closet: ALLSAINTS jacket, Lack of Color hat, and Everlane jeans

You would totally see me wearing a variation of this outfit on the daily basis here in Seattle this winter! I am a turtleneck sweater and jeans kinds gal! I initially wanted to wear a pair of black skinny jeans with the navy sock boots, but I thought too much black might be boring. The sock boots, in my opinion, are difficult pieces to style! I know this since I do own a pair of similar sock boots. Mine are black and have pointy toes. I tend to layer up in the winter, so I’d much prefer chunky boots or those that give me some heights. Luckily, these Vince sock boots have higher heels and much more comfortable than the ones I have. Of course with looser fitting jeans like the ones I have on, you’ve got to untuck the hem or I’d roll up the hem up once or twice to add an interesting touch to the outfit.

Trunk items worn: Topshop coat, ALLSAINTS sweater, and Tiger Mist pants.

Items from my closet: Vagabond shoes and Lack of Color hat

The ALLSAINTS sweater is one of my favorite items in the box. It is expensive, but it is so soft and looks so cute on! I love the stripes on the bodice and the sleeves, definitely a unique sweater to add in your sweater collection! For some reasons, I have really been enjoying styling pastel colors with white, as you can see here and here! The lilac fur coat also adds an incredibly warm and practical layer which I love. It is so lightweight, so you are free to run many errands while looking cute at the same time.

Trunk items worn: Avec Les Filles coat and Vince boots.

Items from my closet: Lack of Color hat, Aritzia scarf, Gucci bag, Topshop jeans

I used to live in Minnesota for 8 years before moving to Seattle, so I know what a really cold winter is like. This outfit is for the extremely cold winter weather! Since the fur coat is huge, it makes layering so much easier. Here I have on a thermal base shirt, a turtleneck sweater layered underneath a chunky one (not shown in these photos!). I find that as long as my head and neck are warm, I am content and comfortable. Of course, wearing good shoes that have some heels and sole traction will help you from slipping and sliding on ice as well!

My final thoughts: I really enjoy styling all of the Trunk items I have got. Lauren, my Trunk stylist, also has outdone herself in terms of picking out items that do not only scream ‘me’ but also are versatile. To be honest, I could pull out lots more looks than just 9 from the 12 items, but 9 outfits are good enough for the sake of a blog post review. The most challenging items to style are the white flared jeans and the sock boots as I explained above. And my most favorite item has got to be the brown fur coat from Avec Les Filles although it is way too oversized on me.

Trunk Club, in my opinion, is an amazing styling service for busy individuals or those who do not enjoy going shopping. I have friends and know a few coworkers that would benefit from this type of styling services. Plus it is much cheaper and less intimidating than paying for an in-person styling service or shopping session with a stylist at the mall. Out of many styling services that I know, Trunk Club is definitely the one I’d recommend everyone to try (if you have certain budget and are really looking for a closet renewal, of course!). Since they pull inventory from Nordstrom, you are guaranteed to get great services and reasonable return policy. So do consider applying for the Nordstrom membership card as it has lots of perks and benefits! These are my non-sponsored thoughts as I do love Nordstrom as a company!

A few things to note: The Trunk Club box is a huge and heavy cube. The box handle came broken as there was no handle when I received it, so it was difficult to carry around. I did not know they had a 5 day return policy, so I had to rush to the nearest Nordstrom store to return the box. They do have options to drop-off option or pickup option, too. I wanted to keep a few things, but the items were either out of my budget range (too expensive to get at their original price) or have fit flaws.

What do you think about the 12 outfits I have put together? Let me know which one is your favorite in the comment section below.
